Alan Titchmarsh / Teach all pupils gardening

BBC’s Alan Titchmarsh wants the seeds of gardening knowledge to be planted in every school pupil. He believes strongly that whichever party wins the election in May should think long-term about getting children outside to teach them about horticulture. “It’s desperately important we get gardening lessons on to the national curriculum. Gardening is good for kids’ health and their understanding of science and nature. It makes them feel more responsible and more comprehending of the countryside. It’s vital they know about it.”

Alan also wants the nation’s parks to be better protected. Speaking at the Ideal Home Show in London, he added: “I’d love any government to think beyond five years and not just on party political lines. “We should focus on things accepted as being for the greater good – like parks and open spaces. These should be on a long-term plan, not at the whim of every government that comes to power.”
